MYCOLOGY-(PLANT PATHOLOGY)

 MYCOLOGY-(PLANT PATHOLOGY)

Classification of fungi
Three kingdoms classification

Mycology means the study of mushrooms (greek. mykes = mushroom, logos = discourse) The broad, diverse range of organisms known as fungi includes three kingdoms.
  1. Fungi
  2. Chromista
  3.  Protozoa
The principle characteristics of uniting the fungi
1) They are eukaryotes
2) Which feed by adsorption
3) Reproduce by forming spores

Fungi feed by digesting materials produced by animals and plants. They achieve this by releasing enzymes that break down complicated substances into smaller molecules including sugars, amino acids, and fatty acids, which are delivered into the cell. This feeding mechanism is referred to as ‘osmotrophy’
